KSU Graduate Student Publishes Peer-Reviewed Article in Reputed Journal, Agrosystems, Geosciences & Environment

Graduate Student, Sandeep Airee, has recently published a peer-reviewed article titled, “Impacts of Farming Management on Soil Health and Water Quality in Kentucky,” in the journal, Agrosystems, Geosciences & Environment, produced by the American Society of Agronomy (ASA) and Crop Science Society of America (CSSA).

Guided by his mentor, Dr. Atanu Mukherjee, his project evaluates the temporal effects of farm fertility management on soil health and leachate water quality. This work contributes to the broader goal of creating guidelines for Kentucky farmers towards environmental sustainability. The project is supported by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture’s Evans-Allen Capacity Building Grant.

"This experience provided me with an incredible opportunity to gain valuable knowledge in developing research skills and writing professional high-quality publications. I am very grateful for the support and encouragement of my advisor, Dr. Atanu Mukherje,” said Airee. “I’m deeply thankful to my professor for the constant support, encouragement, and expert guidance throughout the research process. This publication reflects his mentorship, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow under his supervision.”

Airee has also written and submitted several other manuscripts and presented at multiple prestigious conferences with Dr. Mukherjee across the country.

Airee is graduating with a Master of Science in Environmental Studies in Spring 2025 and has been a member of the Soil and Water Quality Group under Dr. Mukherjee since Fall 2023. He has also recently received the prestigious Student Leadership Award for his exceptional contributions during his time as president of the International Student and Scholar Association (ISSA) at Kentucky State University.

"Kentucky State University is dedicated to empowering our students to tackle real-world challenges through groundbreaking research. Sandeep's remarkable achievement exemplifies the hard work and passion that defines our soil and water quality program. We take pride in nurturing talent and fostering an environment where students can thrive and make a meaningful impact," said Dr. Mukherjee.
